Info | YOUNG, Richard, a Representative from New York; born in Londonderry, Ireland, August 6, 1846; immigrated to the United States in 1851 with his parents, who settled in Philadelphia, Pa.; attended the public schools and was graduated from Crittenden’s Commercial College in Philadelphia; moved to Flatbush, N.Y., in 1866 and engaged in an extensive leather trade in New York City; member of the board of school commissioners of Brooklyn 1895-1902; park commissioner for the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens in 1902 and 1903; engaged in banking and also interested in numerous corporations and business enterprises; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first Congress (March 4, 1909-March 3, 1911); declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1910; resumed his interest in the leather industry; also engaged in banking and various business enterprises in Brooklyn and resided in Flatbush, Brooklyn, N.Y., until his death there June 9, 1935; interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
