InfoByron O. House was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 27, 1902 and died in Belleville, Illinois on September 27, 1969. He attended the Nashville public schools and graduated from the College of Law of the University of Illinois with an LL.B. degree in 1926. He was admitted to the bar the same year and practiced law until 1956 in southern Illinois with offices at Nashville. He was State’s Attorney of Washington County (1945-46) and Circuit Judge of the Third Judicial Circuit (1956-57), both by appointment. In February 1957, he was elected to the Supreme Court to fill a vacancy, was re-elected in June 1960, and served as Chief Justice 1959-60. He served as a member of the President’s National Commission on Reform of Federal Criminal Laws from December 1967, until his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Elks, I.O.O.F., and Pi Kappa Phi and Pi Alpha Delta fraternities.
