A very small part of me feels bad for Adam Schiff. Ah well, I'm over it.

It's still a D+14 in a presidential year. Tough but starts Lean D, I think.

Updated the poll since the link said it was an internal porter poll

Calling it now:

Barbara Lee is announcing her run on the 25th.

That's the day that Shirley Chisholm announced her Presidential Campaign, and since Lee started her political career as a Chisholm campaign member, she's gonna tie their candidacies together a lot

Is there an anyone-but-Schiff option?

RP: Do you mean that you hope her staff runs her out of spite?

If that's what it takes, yes.

Or maybe an acceptable facsimile like whatever robotics Mitch McConnell is made of and his people are controlling from a remote control device.

One would suspect that the US Senate is a little too big to have a Gary Ott scenario.

Gary Ott was the Salt Lake County recorder who remained in office while having dementia because his top aides thought they'd lose their jobs if he resigned.

Great story. Never heard that one before. Yeh, there are lots of crazy but true stories at the local level.

As a Utahn, didn’t think I’d see a Gary Ott reference!

To make things even more comparable, Ott’s chief deputy who was misrepresenting his health, ran to replace him and was crushed. If Feinstein’s comms Director ran, that would be the ultimate Gary Ott!

The Portuguese dictator Salazar was replaced for mental incapacity but they kept giving him meaningless papers to sign so he wouldn't know.

Just realized that since the 1970s, California's US Senators have been mostly from Northern California (Pete Wilson and John Tunney the exceptions). If Schiff or Porter take this seat, they will be the first US Senator elected from Southern California since Pete Wilson won re-election in 1988 (will be 36 years ago in 2024).

Another fun fact, S.I. Hayakawa was the author of one of my college language books. Before or after he was a 1 term Senator he was President of San Francisco State University.

Alex Padilla is also from Southern California but Northern Californians currently hold 6 out of 8 state elected offices (4 from S.F. proper, 2 from the East Bay).

It appears the UC Berkeley poll only sampled Democrats and Independents, so unsure if it should be included?

They put forth a rationale that no prominent Republican has joined yet. It's probably long enough to the election it won't end up mattering.

Despite support from Cheri Beasley, Barbara Lee somehow still gets the coveted E Pluribus Unum endorsement

I've made a ton of jokes about this on twitter: Barbara Lee is going to head a weird coalition of Bernie Bro's and the KHive (and if she makes it to the General, MAGAts as well...)

For seriousness: Lee's just been a good fighter for Progressive values for a long time and I think her as Senator would be good; I only wished she went sooner so we'd have more time for it

Her announcement video was the only one that didn’t make me want to throw something, so she does have that going for her!

Barbara Lee is oddly somewhat popular among Ron Paul type of Republicans.
