At 91.55% in, and a 5 point difference, called for Erdogan. Turks to endure a lifespan of one-party/one-person rule, just the way they like it, it appears. Ask Turkic neighbors Turkmenistan and the other bordering 'stans and laurels' how this feels?

All four territories presently within the Ukraine, the DPR, the LPR, Kherson Oblast and Zaporizhzhia Oblast, will be annexed/absorbed into Russia tomorrow. A historic act.

Two more on the conga line this year:

Kharkiv Oblast
Mykolaiv Oblast
(and whatever else)

We better re-alter the maps.

A drumroll presaging Prime Minister Pashinyan's departure has only grown louder since Armenia's perceived defeat in that last umpteenth Nagorno-Karabakh war begun on September 27, 2020.

Chomping at the bait offered by an enemy 3x stronger was a fool's gambit. A simple reading of Armenia's (astonishingly flavorful and delicate) tea leaves would have foretold to even the softest head a dreary outcome.

But everyone's blood was up - and it's still stirring. A head now has to roll.

The Armenian Apostolic Church, an astonishing 16 political parties, even elements of Pashinyan's own armed forces, now unite as one voice demanding Pashinyan's skin. So, sheepishly, Pashinyan gave a bit off his nose yesterday, suggesting new elections [Link]

If Pashinyan were to bother to take a glance again at those tea leaves, he'd see that resigning now would save he and his party humiliation at the polls later.

An absolute mess of a place. A ruling party cratering, corrupt as Crassus, split into constituent parts. The constituent parts, victors at the polls, family affairs and equally corrupt. A people fed up, swinging pitchforks, taking over towns and rushing city halls, led and inspired by disreputable double-dealers fresh out of their stockades.

Fifty righteous people will not be found in this modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.

I'd put my money on a coup effort, maybe by month-end. Lukashenko had better watch his back from now on.

As if on cue, Putin's ready to step in "The leaders of the countries reaffirmed the agreement that in case of an aggravation of situation in terms of external threats, the parties will react jointly in accordance with the provisions stipulated by the Collective Security Treaty." [Link] Lavrentiy Beria couldn't have planned this better.

And all it took was a distended defenseless mass with full throats to scare Lukashenko back into Mother Russia's kreml.

Maneuvring worthy of a John le Carré novel.

A daring thumb-in-the-nose cry from the people in spite of mass midnight-train departures and reported Duterte-style night-time raids, beatings and alley-side executions by Lukashenko thugs.

146 seats (150+ seats with allies). More than enough. A buffet of enhanced power lies ahead, all you can eat. With a two-thirds majority in parliament, all dreams come true for the megalomaniacal; remove provisions of the constitution, especially the 19th with its darn term limits; plunk all your friends and family, mostly family, in front of all levers of power.

Rename the capital after yourself, Kazakhstan-style. Why not? What's stopping you?

Welcome to Rajapaksastan.

78 year-old Ouattara's entry should surprise no one. He goes to the trouble of changing the constitution, allowing himself a run for a third time, then under pressure and Hamlet-like, forgoes this chance? In a region where 20-year, 30-year, lifetime terms for presidents are the rule, Outtara self-dispatching in a mere 10 years would be, well, a national humiliation.

The man to watch is ex-president and competitor Henri Konan Bédié, now in his 86th year. Konan Bédié has far more talent and energy than all the declared presidential candidates combined. He deserves to jaunt the halls of the presidential palace again for as many terms as Outtara's new constitution allows.

Ask about a sixth term for the current Prezident Respubliki Bielaruś, and the answer will be as Sidney Falco famously said in the Sweet Smell of Success: The cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river.

But there's enough trouble bubbling in the Belarus tea kettle to make the next round much more interesting.

The unexpected public pursuit of novice Tikhanoskaya's lure has many even in the local press asking: Is there enough crocodilian charm left in Lukashenko to see him through to a seventh term?

If not, if Lukashenko's backstreet boys begin to lose faith because their bread and butter is losing his grip, then you should ask about the next logical step: Will Moscow's hunger for the old Byelorussia extinguish a post-Lukashenko Orange Revolution, à la Crimea?

Best opportunity the Albanian minority has to pound a bigger foot-mark on North Macedonia. The Albanian parties will enjoy their play as kingmakers.

Zaev has Kasami on his side. Would Ahmeti, or even Sela and Thaçi, join Mickoski if the price was right? (i.e., an Albanian ethnic Prime Minister?).

I don't see them uniting under one Albanian candidate free of a VMRO or SDSM embrace. They don't have the seats, and worse, they have too many alpha-male personalities (some who hate each other).

Zaev has had corruption issues up to his gills, and in spite of his best efforts, he cannot seem to keep the trireme of the Macedonian state in ship-shape order.

More of issue now (the reason a snap election was called in the first place) is the shock North Macedonia felt when the European Union twisted a kopis in its back late in October 2019 by breaking its promise to open EU membership talks if Macedonia agreed to make a deal with Greece and change its name.

Zaev et companie will be lucky to squeak through intact, in one piece, and still in power after tomorrow.

A Zhirinovsky accolade gets clamped quite ungracefully. And though he'll be sorely missed by his pet rat, he humiliated a Putin puppet in an election in 2018 and took Khabarovsk in a landslide.

Curious. In a land infamous for its cabals, elaborate frame-ups and star chambers, does anyone else here also smell a rat?

I don't know. Here is as pure a case of 'The Mouse That Roared' as I've seen one (let's hope that the story ends as pleasantly as the Wibberley novel and the Peter sellers movie).

Hong Kong is (supposed to be) a 'special administrative region', which means it has the highest degree of autonomy imaginable, 'guaranteed' it by treaty. There is therefore a good argument to make that it should have its OWN container. It's not a given that the unique identity of Hong Kong is bound to slip away.

Note that Hong Kong was more sharply knotted to mother when it was a British colony. But no one (oddly) thought of it as anything but 'independent' Hong Kong at the time. It was always on its own and Asia treated it as if it were as independent as Singapore or South Korea.

In fact, I would argue that Hong Kong will stray further toward 'separation' after this absolutely thunderous scream against China reflected in yesterday's vote. The mood and the trend is resoundingly for a Hong Kong opting out of China's grasp. This is a not a pipe dream anymore.

The mouse roared back yesterday. China Tom may no longer bother to go after Jerry. Not worth the (likely to be bloody) fuss.

Let it be known:

I HATE all authoritarians left and right. So should you.

Mankind ALWAYS records the overthrow of tyrannies by the people as one of its few beautiful moments. They embed these moments in historical stone.

Bless the people of Bolivia.

The situation is too foregone. The sounds for new elections you hear are actually ambulance sirens coming to save Morales as he bunkers down in his now unprotected presidential palace (its police detail slipped away overnight). Not since the final hours of Nero as the mob rushed the Golden House gates have we seen such drama.

Units of the armed forces have joined the protests. The NY Times reports on "throngs of police, many still in uniform, marching with protesters in La Paz". Military chiefs have broken ranks, some plead "neutrality", some say 'hang him high' but all, most ominously, refuse to take the President's orders. Morales allies, his governors, his mayors, even MAS-IPSP apparatchiks swell up the hordes by the hour.

The people are fed up... they see that the emperor has no clothes, and they smell blood.

Now he's "strongly" considering a bid: [Link] I guess better late than never. If he files before the Nov. 8 deadline, he'd have only four months to build a war chest and rev up enough speed to overcome Tuberville or Byrne by the primary. I don't think he could do it.

There's talk that Maduro's invited to depart in style, to enjoy life "on a beach somewhere" [Link] How jolly. Maybe an all-expense paid sun-soaked tour along the Russian Black Sea Coast, courtesy of the treasury of Venezuela; or maybe a topless stroll holding hands with Castro-frère down Old Havana way?

How about surfing the waves along the Gran Canaria, or a cruise on the Bosphorus with fellow traveller Erdoğan? So much joy awaits our needy presidente. Wow!

Might I also suggest the land of Hades where he could sun bathe by hell-fire? Or how about Tartarus, where he could sit by a warm hell-pit and spend his days enjoying checkers with Rudolf Hess and John Wayne Gacy? There's also the nation wherein reigns King Beezelbub. He promises to give our excited little Maduro the warm, royal treatment he deserves!

Fourth in line to the Virginia governorship. Who's fifth? Sixth? Hell, if all fails (and it will), it might fall on me: Bojicat, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Suspicious decision by the Washington Post to spray out this rape/sexual assault charge today, just in time to disengage us from the final death scene in Northam Agonistes. Suspicious timing again when the Post first receives this story, in November 2017 no less, just before Virginia ponders a Fairfax for Lt. Governor (a re-serving of Keith Ellison, anyone?).

But Fairfax is digging for himself a deeper grave. Denouncing the Post as having “smeared” him and threatening legal action, making up stories that the Post "had found inconsistencies and red flags in the woman’s allegation," which the Post today denied was the case [Link] - All this begs a big media v Fairfax fight to come way, and dares the woman in question to emerge from the depths to expose herself, to the ENTIRE press this time.

A disaster looming, and a guarantee that a Governor Fairfax will be dogged by this 'til doomsday.

Well, the really big shoe just dropped [Link] A U.S. oil embargo, which will result in an $11 billion gap in receivables, dashing China's and Russia's only hope that their ill-thought out, billion-dollar loans to Maduro would ever be returned, let alone bear fruit with fat interest payments. A country just millimeters away from declaring bankruptcy.

Britain, Germany, France and Spain throw themselves full-throttle into the recognition machine [Link] now an unstoppable, air-breathing combustion engine in a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti going 150 miles an hour. Bravo and all speed ahead!

A world of ignominy and millenia-long opprobrium to Maduro's zealous protectors - China, Cuba, Russia, Nicaragua, Columbia and Turkey's satrap - Authoritarians and wannabe authoritarians all.

Blessed, powerful, historic moment: [Link] - Maduro regime withering on the vine, on the brink, facing Hades on the River Styx, every metaphor you can think of rolled into one. A formal (good gads!) recognition by the US of opposition leader Juan Guaido [Link] followed by Canada [Link] followed shortly by the European Continent and, you can be sure, coming next, virtually the rest of South and Central America.

A worldwide flood of condemnation and direct action soon to wash the Maduro regime into the Caribbean Sea - maybe within the year, maybe in a few months, or maybe (if favored with a smile and a wink by Jove and the Seven Sisters) within a few days!

What hath Chavez wrought: [Link] Once Maduro is hung by his heels like a slab of raw meat on a rolling garment rack and paraded about the streets of Caracas, Chavista statues and monuments will be toppled, cracked apart and buried like Easter Island moai with feverish zeal. It’ll be so great a national catharsis that it’ll make the mood post-12/26/1991 Soviet Union look like a tea party by comparison.
