Probably but there hasn't been any polling for this race that I could find, so you honestly never know. We could end up with a situation like the Republican Lt. Gov. primary in 2022 where each region voted for their favorite son candidate and the winner ended up winning with 25% of the vote.
Even if he does win, the current GOP is driving out Senators and Representatives that are quite a bit to the right of him. I'm can't imagine what he would face from his own party in office.
I'm heading out for a couple of months with the wife on a humanitarian mission this Thanksgiving through the New Year and will be offline through early January. I'll probably have some Internet access, but I'm going off all social media and websites so I can have my mindset total focused on the mission and effort.
Before I left, I wanted to wish you all, your loved ones and your families a wonderful and special Thanksgiving, Christmas (if you celebrate it), Holiday Season, and New Year.
Seems like things are really getting tense in the world. I want you all to know that even though many of us approach things from different world views, I've tried to be respectful. I apologize unreservedly if any of you have felt disrespected in anyway by my comments or actions. We should be able to have our beliefs and respect each other at the same time. I'll own not living up to that standard sometimes this past year. In the end we need to co-exist with our wide and different views.
I'd like to leave you all with something I've been studying recently, the Parable of the Prodigal Son. [Link] I am aware that many of you aren't religious, but this parable has inspired so much classical and popular culture, I'm sure you've been exposed in some way whether it be from a modern song or a Kipling poem or a Shakespeare play or even in the themes of Star Wars. [Link] May this amazing story touch you in the way it has touched me. We may all be imperfect. Flawed. But all should be welcomed home into loving arms after we fall short.
The video program below from 2013 gives an interesting perspective on Adlai Stevenson. It is a live broadcast that focuses on his two presidential campaigns. I give it a B+ because I think a chronological presentation would have condensed some duplication and would have opened time for a deeper discussion.
Pennsylvanian: Admittedly, I read "Dean" emblazoned across the bus and assumed this guy pulled a Howard Dean hand-me-down out of the scrap heap. But this guy's immensely wealthy (like $100M), so has evidently run out of vanity-boosting things to blow his fortune on. Tells you what he knows about affordability.
EDIT: This guy looks uncannily like a cross between Ron DeSantis and Doug Burgum.
Ahhh. Should have looked into his net worth. I was wondering how much he would need to pull in on donations to lease a bus for the next year. But sounds like he can just write a check and use it as an RV after he loses.
BrentinCO: If you are a conservative who opposed McCarthy and McHenry becomes acting Speaker or empowered as Speaker - than nothing was accomplished in removing McCarthy. In fact, if Democrats are the ones that give McHenry the votes for victory, all that was accomplished is giving a McCarthy ally and someone who is beholden to Democrats the leadership of the House of Representatives.
The folk who did this don't care. It's just another fundraising email and a new tweet they can post for attention to fill that empty void where their soul or parents' love should be.
Old LW: Jesus, what is it with Alaskan politicians and plane crashes?
I reckon it has something to do with the fact that prop jet travel is more common than any other state. Also a lot more can go wrong in plane travel than say car travel if basic safety checks aren't done regularly.
Luzerne County Historian: At what point is it considered elder abuse to keep people who are clearly suffering from mental health issues in office?
You assume it's staff and not the senator themselves, in more lucid moments, refusing to go. In my (admittedly limited) experience working in legislatures, it's the elected official who chooses to hold out until the bitter end.
Pennsylvanian: I am strained to think of any modern parallel at all... nope, got nothing.
Actually read the article above I linked yesterday to the news section [Link] - Carter wrote that article for the New Yorker and talks about a modern parallel.
I've come to the conclusion following some reading that Kaiser Wilhelm was a bit of a jerk.
He had a child's behavior through out most of his life. Used to sit on his servants for fun. And played pranks even as an adult in formal situations.
The writings of his cousin/peer monarchs and their families bear witness to how much he wasn't liked and for those reasons above they tried to steer clear of him.
But he got even by starting an unnecessary world war where 22M people died.
CA Pol Junkie:
That is not just exhaustion. Alot of armchair doctors are saying this looks like a Transient Ischemic Attack. He needs to get it checked out right away.
The fact that he walked off and responded probably means the worst has been avoided. Still if he's not at his doctors getting it checked out - seems like it would be a mistake.
Happy 4th of July to my American brothers and sisters. Hope you enjoy the day celebrating our freedoms, honoring those that died to protect those freedoms, and that you create memories with the ones you love.
RP: I just realized Roseanne's normal speaking tone is the same tone other people use to denote irony, which makes it even harder to tell.
Beyond just this incident, I can only imagine the fact that she doesn't/can't change her speaking tone for sarcasm must have been the cause of other misunderstandings in life. Sarcasm is a normal and playful part of any human relationship. For a comedian it almost seems like a disability.
