Saw a post on this page and thought it was going to be about the Final Jeopardy question from this week.

Fascinating character in African history.

Big issue in this by-election was housing, and the voters are punishing the government parties on this issue.

With this date, expect school openings to be a big issue. Newsom will coast if these go smoothly, and recall proponents will seek to raise a fuss and/or exploit any school board mishaps/wackiness.

Labour doesn't have a lot of viable options to replace him. That may speak louder about the state of Labour than having a party leader with bad ratings.

We could have it as "Harewood (3 seats)" or just have it as "Harewood" since the other seats are numbered?

Tory commentary will probably consist of Hancock fallout and Galloway nastiness leading to sympathy votes for Leadbeater.

Nevertheless, looks like a big personal vote for Leadbeater. She may have saved Sir Keir’s bacon.

Can we get a permanent Director? It's been 4 1/2 years. There have been five different acting Directors.

Would love RCV voting in Georgia. Having primaries, primary runoffs, generals, and general runoffs is inefficient.

Although if we're relying on NYC Board of Elections to show how RCV can work efficiently...

Each candidate runs as the head of a list. If no one gets a majority, any candidate that gets 10% in the first round can enter the second round. If a candidate gets at least 5%, they can merge their list with another candidate's in the second round.

At the final round, the list with the most votes gets 25% of the seats in the council right off the bat. Then, the remaining seats are divided among the lists (including the winner's list) that get at least 5%. That's why you will see candidates merging lists.

Therefore, you can have four (or even more than four) candidates in the runoff.

A poll that shows Galloway as a spoiler with twelve days to go might give Labour enough time to spread the "two horse race" message and convince voters to think tactically. If this poll was being released the weekend before polling day, I think Labour would be doomed.

The Keir Starmer ratings, oof.

Wow, indeed. Get ready for British political analysts to discuss a realignment in politics when looking at Hartlepool as well as Chesham & Amersham.

I feel like this race could come down to whether Garcia or Wiley nabs that #3 spot following transfers. A lot of the focus has been on the Yang-Adams dimension that either Garcia or Wiley could become very transfer-friendly (Wiley especially making a play for progressive transfers).

I'm obviously viewing this from a national lens not being from NYC. What are other people thinking?

I would think they would favor Keiko for economic reasons. Maybe there are some who fled during the Alberto Fujimori years and wouldn't like her? My Peruvian history knowledge is limited.

20% of the expat vote is in and Fujimori leads 64-36 (35K to 20K). Don't know how many raw votes this will end up being, though.

Those questions are a bit lame, but that cultural knowledge can play a role in elections. Just ask Martha Coakley.
