I mean this state did just elect J.D. Vance. There are states where being MAGA is a liability but I'm not sure Ohio is one of them.

I hope all the boomer liberals that love Schiff enjoy their fond memories of the Trump impeachment while he ends up supporting a border wall compromise to raise the debt ceiling in 2025

I guess Porter quixotically running ads promoting Eric Early didn't split the GOP vote enough for her to get a runoff slot LOL. Good riddance.

Kellyanne Conway wrote in the New York Times urging Donald Trump to appoint a person of color as vice-president — but not, she insists, for reasons of “identity politics.”
I'm going to eat a sandwich. But not due to hunger, but rather due to my desire to masticate bread, meat and cheese in a simultaneous motion. Perhaps later, I will also consider partaking of a meal.

Interesting choice of name. I wonder if it would be different if the former "liberals" didn't move to claim the term "progressive" instead.

BrentinCO: He's a great recruit but Senators Linda Lingle (R-HI) and Phil Bredesen (D-TN) would agree that being a popular Governor doesn't mean an automatic seat in the US Senate.
Still, its just feels that he can make this race more competitive and maybe make Democrats spend money where they didnt' plan.
In fairness, Lingle did leave office on a bit of a down note compared to Hogan's 70-odd percentage approval rating.
Partisanship does seem to matter a lot more now in federal races though. Gone are the days of Ben Nelson types overcoming partisan inclinations through sheer goodwill. Manchin is the last of his kind and he was on the road to getting crushed this year.
That being said, Democrats seem a lot more willing to buy into the "I'm not like other girls" argument than Republicans and enough might swoon if Hogan distances himself from Trump.

Apparently he blamed his late financial filings on not knowing how to write checks.

Montana, you're on the clock! Too cool of a state to have that shoddy of a flag!

I like it. Better than the boring "state seal against a blue background" trend that too many state flags have.

Ralphie: Rectenwald. When Dave Smith got around to announcing (what almost everybody paying attention already knew) that he isn't running, the Mises Caucus chair had to scramble for a replacement option, not only for them to have an officially supported candidate but also so he could step down as caucus chair and have a paid campaign manager position. It's going over poorly, though. Finding somebody out there touting Rectenwald is rare outside of those who are directly involved.
As it stands, those who are or were supporters of the takeover are split. The most die-hard followers will stay in line for Rectenwald. The saucier ones who think the caucus sold out and/or failed are the natural Joshua Smith base. The ones who were actually there all along to support Austrian economics instead of culture war BS will mostly go for ter Maat. He tried to frame his campaign as growing from the Mises Caucus movement initially in hopes of being a consensus choice but it didn't really work because he's a decent person with a professional campaign and the edgelord crowd have no time for either of those things. Mapstead has gotten support from some of the lapsed Mises crowd as well, those who are more just over it and want to move on. Hornberger seems to have little Mises support anymore but is doing well with old radical types, and to his credit is running close second to Oliver in grassroots member donations.
That is honestly hilarious to me, because I remember Rectenwald from Lefbook groups almost a decade ago when he was trying to build a brand as a left-communist guru. Seeing him as an attempted standard bearer for Misesite libertarianism really hammers home 1) how much of an opportunist he is and 2) how much the Misesites are terrible at politics.
That said, this must be incredibly frustrating to have to deal with. I'm very much not a Libertarian but as a veteran of third party faction fights you do have my sympathies.

If she wins, Wu is a perfect example of how Libertarians can actually win if they just stay off the internet and actually campaign. Granted, she's a well known reporter but still.
