Beto's move seems gimmicky and something a third party candidate looking to attract attention would do.

He’s a Democrat in Texas in a midterm year. He could run on a 1990s-style GOP platform and still lose by 10 points. Even “reasonable” conservatives would criticize every move he’d make, so nothing to lose. It’s not like the ruling GOP politicians are going to do anything to enhance access to mental health services, but sure, yelling at them during a press conference where they announce nothing new is the issue.

Most Texans take pride in how ****ty their state is. If anything the Uvalde shooting helps Abbott because it will reaffirm voters' love for guns.

Sad, but probably true.

News cycles move quickly for these stories so it's possible that we're solidly in the cycle that blames the Uvalde PD and that the Beto cycle has moved to the backburner for a little bit.

I'm not sure if blaming the PD is really any more or less a productive exercise than all the other cycles we've had after these murders but we're at this point.

the "you are doing nothing" phrase that Beto used feels different with the news from the last day or do involving the Uvalde PD

Although I don't think Abbott's "It could have been worse" comment will sit well with the parents.

also I wouldn't mind if the AP posted the official results from Texas in a few weeks to make it a lot easier to enter Texas stuff without having to hit tab like 1000 times to enter it manually on here
