| Description |
In 2017 Vin Gopal stunned New Jersey political circles after ousting republican State Senator Jennifer Beck. Since then Gopal has catapulted into the spotlight. After just 4 years in office Gopal chairs the Senate Military and Veterans affairs committee and he was made Chair of the Democratic Conference just four months into his tenure.
Republicans, who still have considerable strength in Monmouth County, recruited Lori Annetta who has worked in the financial industry for decades. This is considered a disappointing recruit for the GOP who had hoped to convince popular Monmouth County Commissioner Tom Arnone to run.
With Gopal's newly found clout and a somewhat weak recruit republicans are likely to experience a narrow defeat.
