If you're gonna be overtly partisan and you want to be OMB Director, make sure you served some time in Congress so you'll have more friends there.

Honestly, why won't Democrats just turn the situation with Tanden around, saying "Republicans are doing the CANCEL CULTURE, bringing up Neera Tanden old tweets!"

Because, in the end, she's just not worth the fight. Sounds like Biden is already vetting Plan B.

No President has a perfect confirmation process. If you have to lose a nominee, losing an OMB Director nominee over mean tweets isn't a crippling event. Might actually give some cover (press-wise) to nominees like Becerra or Haaland who Republicans are objecting to on policy grounds.

Wonder who will write the headline "Joe Manchin sides with progressives in opposition to Neera Tanden"

Rejecting Becerra is much more important than Tanden, for substantive reasons. However, rejecting Tanden is also incredibly justified.

Well, Manchin is supporting Haaland.

RP: Well, Manchin is supporting Haaland.

But, I was told he was a racist who doesn't support women of color!

What's going on with this nomination? Is the White House plan just to keep Shalanda Young wearing both hats?

IndyGeorgia: What's going on with this nomination? Is the White House plan just to keep Shalanda Young wearing both hats?

If so, why don't they just nominate her? She was just confirmed overwhelmingly--I don't see why they would make her do the job without the deputy.

Where did Manchin say he opposed Young?
