Filing deadline for the general is officially passed, and so far only the Green and SWP gubernatorial candidates have their info up on the state elections site, along with 2 candidates for senate senate and 5 candidates for state assembly. Obviously the state election authorities are probably somewhat busy today so they'll probably be a couple additions over the next day or so, but it still feels rather light.

Honestly one of the proudest votes I've ever cast was for Jack.

so the state department creates a convoluted online ballot signature system and it results to democrats challenging the petitions of candidates they don’t like (shocking). why don’t they look into the petitions of Gregg Mele...

This is really smart. Jack has spent the last few weeks with a lot of good press and momentum. Even the biggest controversies that have emerged over the last two weeks haven't stuck and he seems completely unfazed. A good running mate announcement, and Jack is on his way into the New Jersey political hall of fame win or loose.

Can’t possibly imagine how people can look at the path this state has taken over the last 50 years with Byrne, Kean, Florio, Whitman, McGreevey, Corzine, and Christie, and possibly think that Phil Murphy is offering something different. Ugh.

Just doesn't seem like there is enough of a "change" momentum this year in NJ to get Ciattarelli in.

BrentinCO: Just doesn't seem like there is enough of a "change" momentum this year in NJ to get Ciattarelli in.

It'd be pretty significant if both the NJ and VA governorships stay Dem even with Biden in office, given the recent historical pattern (albeit one bucked by VA in 2013) of electing a governor from the other major party than the president. I don't have much of a read on what's going on in VA, but I do think you're right that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of change momentum in NJ this year.

That said, there seems to be a fair amount of tiredness generally, which could break either way if it results in a low turnout election

I think we are more likely to see republicans gain seats in the Assembly, maybe one in the senate (if not numbers stay the same) alongside Murphy getting re-elected.

“Survivors are not pawns…” coming from the party that used Christine Balsey Ford for literally two straight months. I agree Jack shouldn’t be using her testimony in an ad, but I don’t want to hear democrats take on this either.

I do think it’s gross that they used her testimony in an ad. I know it’s public and she made that testimony to a Senate committee. I had a friend in hs who experienced something like this and I would not want this to happen to them so shame on Jack and Diane.

I know that last poll is an outlier so support for Gregg Mele may be exaggerated, but I wonder if a lot of those in the Rizzo camp may vote for him because of their dedication to wacky election conspiracy theories. Some have even said they will write in Rizzo because Jack said Joe Biden won the election fair and square, so that makes him a democrat in their narrow minds.

Murphy over performed tonight. He didn’t act like the front runner and you know what I don’t think that strategy is very harmful to him. He mentioned Donald Trump maybe twice and that was refreshing and honest. However, he came off as way too aggressive, making Jack look like a pragmatic, calm minded moderate. Jack also failed to hammer home his “New Jersey is broken” line. If I where to give the two some advice. I’d tell Murphy to relax a little bit. Making people hate Jack is too divisive and it won’t help you mold an image as a unifier. I’d tell Jack to start really hammering home the point that ordinary people really don’t feel better off. Their taxes are up, Murphy literally said this state is more affordable, and that schools are fully funded. This just simply isn’t true, my property taxes have gone up over 200% over the last year because the public schools are underfunded. Now I know Murphy isn’t on my school board but something has to be implemented at the state level. Also Murphy and Ciattarelli should not have pledged to “never raise taxes” because we all know that’s BS

Other than that, both uitilized out of the box strategies.

I’d like to hear others thoughts

Ps the audience acted like middle school students. For the love of god shut up. Lol!

The perennial NJ poll tease showing Republicans within reach.

Although it is interesting that Murphy has consistently been around 50% and not higher in polls. Maybe there is something significant to Biden campaigning for Murphy. [Link]

I'd glady take a Ciattarelli win in NJ over a Youngkin win in VA.

Reports say republican leaning precincts are seeing high voter turnout (some in Ocean Co. hit 100% this afternoon) while democrat precincts have low turnout. I don't think this means much except that a lot of those democrats probably voted by mail or early.
