Tierney's primary was always more of a "Tierney underperformed in elections in 2010/12 partly because his wife was convicted of tax fraud" thing than an ideological thing.

No that's the thing, Moulton didn't campaign on strategy. He did say he was the "progressive" in the race but he never gave policy specifics. He used the "Pass the Torch"/"New Ideas" strategy Eric Swalwell used when he first got elected to congress.

WA Indy: Tierney's claimed as a progressive now?

Moulton's claimed as a progressive now?

Honestly I think Kennedy is going to lose. It will be very close though.

Kennedy will not lose and it won’t be close. Please feel free to attach “Prediction” reactions to this post and change them to “Groan” in the event that I’m horrifically wrong.

The endorsements for this primary are very interesting: Joe Kennedy has the backing of co-chairs of the Progressive Caucus, New Dems, and Blue Dogs, while Markey has the backing of both AOC and Joe Manchin.

I assumed this would be the time where the establishment and Progressives might back the same guy, like Pete Stark's election. IDK where Pocan and Grijalva are coming from...

MA needs to push for legislation moving up their Primary elections to May or June.

NY St & RI need to do the same thing.

New York has already moved its primary to June for both federal and state races.

No. For all state and federal races. I'm not sure if it applies to local government.

First debate.

Markey was easily beating Kennedy at the beginning but later on the debate started becoming more even

I doubt he won't be on the ballot.

If he were a newcomer that'd be troubling but an incumbent will pull through somehow

some Massachusetts state legislators want to slash the number of petitions required for everybody this year, which could get Markey on the ballot (along with several state legislators who aren't feeling too warm about their petition efforts)

But the catch is that they either need to get the bill approved without any Thomas Massies in the body or they need to get people together to voice vote it across the finish line

I say tossup. Markeys got advantage of incumbency, which may be helped more by the fact physical campaigning is no more

I guess we'll see how it plays out in real elections, but I'd think the less physical campaigning there is, the better it is for name recognition candidates. Which might split more evenly here than the usual incumbent/challenger race since the challenger is a Kennedy.

I am ignorant when it comes to Massachusetts politics, why is Kennedy primarying Markey. Shouldn't the left have little to complain over him - or am I missing something

I’m not expert, but my guess would be generational and probably the last name. If his name was Joseph Kennedy, Markey would be gliding towards re-election.
