Description

Former Alderwomen Simpson was declared the winner and seated on the city council. However, a full ward recount has granted and the alderman for this seat could change depending on the outcome.

The Official Vote:
Simpson, 466; Gregory 465; Senor, 394; and Shafer 99.

Shawn Gregory filed a lawsuit against the Sangamon County Clerk and Gail Simpson requesting a recount. Following a recount the vote stood as follows:

Simpson, 464; Gregory 462; Senor, 387; and Shafer 97.

Following another potential suit against the Sangamon County Clerk's office the Springfield City Council voted 9-0 to declare the Ward 2 seat a tie by allowing two ballots that were previously not counted for Gregory to be added to his total. Following the declaration of a tie vote, a drawing of names determined Gregory the winner.
