People tend to keep their ideology as they get older - this pattern will make the electorate about 1.6 points more Democratic every 2 years.

You can look at data going back to 1994 and it shows that there's not much change in how liberal or conservative each generation is over time. Each generation is less conservative / more liberal than the one before it, however, which is why the trend in favor of Democrats will continue. [Link]
