Description BBC Constituency Profile:

Taking in large stretches of country and coast in East Yorkshire is the largely agricultural seat of Beverley and Holderness. The largest communities here include the seaside resorts of Hornsea and Withernsea, and East Riding's county town of Beverley.

There are industrial estates around Beverley, a BP chemical refinery at Salt End on the Humber estuary and much of the UK's natural gas is brought ashore at Easington. Tourism is important and the Holderness peninsular is a popular destination for birdwatchers. Many of the residents are commuters working in Hull.

One in 10 works in manufacturing, while one in 20 has an apprenticeship, according to ONS 2011 Census figures for England and Wales. Over 98% of people are white and three quarters are homeowners. At the 2010 election, Graham Stuart held the seat for the Conservatives with 47.1% of the vote; Liberal Democrats got 22.7%, Labour 21.1% and BNP 3.9%.
