BBC Constituency Profile:
In the south Wales valleys to the north west of Cardiff, Rhondda includes communities such as Porth, Tonypandy and Treorchy.
The constituency suffers relatively high levels of unemployment - around 11% - despite various schemes to revitalise the area after the decline of the mining industry. More than a quarter of working age people here receive benefits - double the British average.
The seat was held by Allan Rogers for Labour from 1983 until 2001, when Chris Bryant kept the seat red. Mr Bryant was re-elected in 2005 and in 2010 with a majority of 11,553 and 55.3% of the vote. Plaid Cymru took 18.8%, the Liberal Democrats 10.6%, Conservatives 6.4% and UKIP 1.2%Economic regeneration and transport links are key local issues.
