BBC Constituency Profile:
Stretching from the western edge of Sheffield city centre out into leafy, hilly areas in the rural Peak District, Sheffield Hallam is one of five constituencies covering one of the UK's largest cities.
It is an affluent area, which ranked second in England and Wales for the proportion of people in professional occupations, in the ONS 2011 Census. It has the fourth-highest ranking for people working in education. Unemployment is low and there is a sizeable student group, even though the city's two universities are not in the constituency.
The seat has been held by the Lib Dem leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg since 2005. It was Conservative for most of the 20th Century until the Liberal Democrats took it in 1997. In 2010, Nick Clegg retained his seat with a majority of more than 15,000 and 53% of the vote. The Conservatives had 23% and Labour 16%.
