Description BBC Constituency Profile:

This East End seat is one of big contrasts, covering the skyscrapers and luxury apartments of Canary Wharf and the social housing estates of Bromley by Bow. Poplar and Limehouse is one of the most ethnically diverse in the country with a large Bangladeshi community. Within its borders sit the Tower of London, the Isle of Dogs and Billingsgate Fish Market, which relocated here in 1983.

This is a young seat, 80% of residents are under 45, with the fourth highest percentage of male residents in England and Wales, according to the 2011 Census. Asian residents represent 42% of the population. While it has a large social housing sector and high unemployment, it also has a highly skilled workforce, many managers and the 2nd highest percentage of people working in finance in the country.

Labour's Jim Fitzpatrick won the seat in 2010, 6,030 votes ahead of the Conservatives. The Respect-Unity Coalition came third with 17.5% of the vote.
