Description BBC Constituency Profile:

Located where London meets Surrey this seat is one of the most densely populated constituencies in the country. This blend of leafy suburbs and cityscapes possibly accounts for its larger than average construction and manufacturing industries, which together employs roughly 12.5% of the adult population. Retail and social work still remain the two largest employers in the area.

Demographically, roughly 40% of residents come from ethnic minority backgrounds and a higher than average proportion of households do not speak English as their first language according to ONS 2011 Census figures.

The seat was Conservative before 1997, but has since become firmly Labour. Current MP Siobhain McDonagh has held office since New Labour's landslide, where she won 59.4% of the vote share. The Conservatives have made limited inroads since then and Ms McDonagh received 56.5% of the vote share at the 2010 election.
