Description

BBC Constituency Profile:

The bustling, vibrant seat of Islington North, in north London, is popular with young professionals drawn to the bars and restaurants on Upper Street, in neighbouring Islington South. There are plenty of students living in the area too, with London Metropolitan University having a campus on Holloway Road. In addition, the constituency is home to Arsenal Football Club and its 60,000-capacity Emirates Stadium. More than 40% of households live in social rented accommodation in this seat, which is the eight-highest ranking, according to ONS 2011 Census statistics for England and Wales.

At 727 hectares, this is the smallest and most dense UK parliamentary constituency by area. Labour's Jeremy Corbyn has held the seat since 1983 and had a 12,000-plus majority at the last election. He won with 54.5% of the vote, followed by the Liberal Democrats on 26.7%, Conservatives 14.2% and Green 3%.
