Description

BBC Constituency Profile:

Positioned in the western part of the borough of Haringey, the Hornsey and Wood Green seat also includes Muswell Hill. Small businesses are the major source of work for people here, with others commuting to central London. Alexandra Palace is a major music, sports and conferences hub and provides a significant boost to the local economy.

More than 16% of economically active constituents are self-employed, according to the ONS 2011 Census for England and Wales, the 10th-highest ranking.

Since its creation in 1983, this seat has been successively represented by MPs from all three main parties in general elections. It was Conservative until 1992 before going the way of Labour, who won again in 1997 and 2001. The Liberal Democrats' Lynne Featherstone took the seat in 2005 and retainedit in 2010, when she won 46.5% of the vote, with Labour on 34%, Conservatives 16.7% and Green 3%.
