BBC Constituency Profile:
The north London seat of Hendon is home to some significant employers, and the birthplace of former England cricketer Denis Compton. Middlesex University is located in this seat, as is Hendon Police College, now known as the Peel Centre. Brent Cross shopping centre is also the centrepiece of a £4bn masterplan to create a new town centre including 7,500 homes and 27,000 jobs, with revised plans granted planning permission last year.
Exactly 17% of the constituency's residents are Jewish, according to ONS 2011 Census figures for England and Wales, the second-highest ranking.
Labour's Andrew Dismore took control of the seat following its creation in 1997, retaining it in 2001 and again in 2005, albeit with a reduced majority. In 2010, Matthew Offord won for the Conservatives with a majority of 106. He got 42.3% of the votes, with Labour on 42.1%, Liberal Democrats 12.4% and UKIP 2.1%.
