Description |
The french Socialist Party Congress in Reims was the theatre of a bitter fight between François Mitterrand's eirs. Former Secretary General Lionel Jospin, former Prime Minister Laurent Fabius, and Prime Minister Michel Rocard, who had been a major rival of François Mitterrand since the foundation of the PS, tried to win the party in order to put themselves in front for the presidential election of 1995. No motion could prevail during the Congress. Former Prime Minister Pierre Mauroy, who had supported Jospin's motion, became Secretary General of the Party four days after the Congress and remained it until 1992. His successor was Laurent Fabius.
Note: the results indicated here are in "national mandates" obtained, and not actual total of votes.
