Description |
Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce is facing what is believed to be the first recall election against a legislator in Arizona history.
Citizens for a Better Arizona filed the signatures to recall Pearce due to his focus on illegal immigration and gun rights over jobs and health care.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has 15 business days after July 8th to set a recall election date. The recall is expected to take place on November 8th.
Once an election date is set, district residents of any party can file nomination petitions and begin collecting the 621 signatures required to run on the ballot against Pearce. There is no runoff. The recall candidate with the most votes would win the seat.
If Pearce resigns within 5 days of the recall being accepted, then his seat will be filled by the local party committees. If he stays in office, he will face a candidate in a recall election.
