Description In the election of 1992, the fifteenth district of New York (which included Astoria and the East Side of Manhattan) rejected liberal Republican Rep. Bill Green in a stunning upset.

Green, considered to be perhaps the most liberal Republican in the House of Representatives, elected in a 1978 special election to replace Ed Koch, fell victim to 'The Year of the Woman' and a new set of congressional lines.

The district was seriously contested again in 1994, but given the results of that election, this district will not likely be targeted by the Republican Party in a very long time.

Maloney also ran on the Liberal line.
DEM 97,059 LIB 4,593

Green also ran on the Independent Neighbors line.
REP 92,034 NBR 5,181

Hirschfield ran on the "Independent Fusion" line.
