Description BBC Profile:
Ben Wallace, the Conservative MP for Lancaster and Wyre, has decided to contest this new seat at the election rather than the neighbouring Lancaster and Fleetwood seat. Wallace took his old seat from Labour in 2005, securing a 4,171 majority.

The seat stretches up to the Stania and Carleton wards in the north and round to the Brock and Great Eccleston wards in the south west. All four of these wards return only Conservative councillors.

At the election, this new Lancashire constituency contains wards or part-wards from the previous parliamentary constituencies of Lancaster and Wyre, Ribble Valley, Preston, Fylde and Blackpool North and Fleetwood. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The constituency is fairly rural, with the largest towns Poulton-Le-Fylde and Thornton.

The services sector is an important employer in the area, and a high proportion of residents work in public administration. Manufacturing in this part of Lancashire is less prevalent than elsewhere in the county as it does not cover any of the major cotton mill towns.
