Description
BBC Profile:
This Wiltshire seat has been in Conservative hands since 1945. Mr Robert Key has been its MP since 1983, although he is standing down at this election.

In 1997 he was returned with a majority of over 6,000. At the 2001 general election, the Conservative share of the vote increased by almost 4%, and in 2005 their position was further strengthened when Mr Key was returned with a majority of 11,142.

Boundary changes mean that Salisbury is losing Bulford and Durrington wards to Devizes; Donhead, Fonthill and Nadder, Tisbury and Fovant and part-ward Knoyle become part of south-west Wiltshire. To find out what might have happened had these boundary changes been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The constituency takes in the city of Salisbury and surrounding rural villages. Its two most famous features are Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral.

It was the seat of the 18th Century Prime Minister, William Pitt the Younger. Salisbury has strong military links and large parts of the constituency are marked as danger areas on maps due to their use in military training exercises.

Salisbury has excellent rail links to London, Exeter, Bristol and many south coast resorts.

While the Ministry of Defence is a major employer, several public sector agencies also provide employment.
