Description BBC Profile:
Worthing West was created from the old seat of Worthing, following the 1995 boundary review. The eastern side of the town became part of the new constituency of East Worthing and Shoreham. In 1997 the previous MP, Terence Higgins, stood down, and Conservative Peter Bottomley replaced him.

Bottomley held on with a reduced majority of 7,713 votes. He increased his share of the vote in 2001, and his majority in 2005 increased by 342 votes to 9,379.

At the election, the seat gains the part-wards of Central and Salvington from East Worthing and Shoreham. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Worthing, a coastal town in West Sussex, is a bustling modern commercial centre with a population of around 100,000. Worthing West contains most of the town as well as Goring-by-Sea, and the coastal villages of Ferring, East Preston, Kingston, and Rustington.

Worthing has a large population of retired people, but also an active working population and numerous companies are based in the area. The majority of jobs are in the service sector, and local government is a major employer.

Tourism creates plentiful employment in the hotel and retail sector, while manufacturing is also important.
