BBC Profile:
Conservatives have represented this constituency since 1945; the current incumbent, Crispin Blunt, is a former army officer. 1997 saw him elected with a 7,741 majority. In the 2001 general election he went on to increase his majority to 8,025 votes, and again in 2005 to 10,988.
At the election, the seat gains the Preston ward from the Epsom and Ewell constituency. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
The seat has excellent transport links to London, Brighton and the south coast. The M25 and M23 cross the borough and Gatwick airport is on the doorstep; good rail links make commuting to London easy.
Reigate is situated at the foot of Colley Hill and Reigate Hill on the North Downs in Surrey. It is a market town, with a long and distinguished history, once used as a stopover for travellers on the Pilgrims Way. Pleasant countryside, and a number of pretty rural villages surround the town itself.
The main employers in the area are Legal and General, Fidelity, Watson Wyatt, First National Finance, and the office headquarters of Pfizer, the research-based global pharmaceutical company, which employs around 800 people.
