Description BBC Profile:
This seat has been held by the Conservatives since 1970. In 1997 the Conservative share of the vote dropped below 50% for the first time since 1979, but at 49.8% the party still had more votes than their two rivals combined, as John Bercow became MP.

In 2001 the Conservatives regained their vote-share of over 50%, and in 2005 increased their majority by over 5,000 votes for the second election running.

At the election, boundary changes mean that this seat gains the wards of Icknield and The Risboroughs from Aylesbury, in exchange for the part-wards of Coldharbour, Elmhurst and Watermead, Quarendon, and Aston Clinton. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

This large and predominantly rural constituency is centred around the small market town of Buckingham.

Most voters are scattered about the large number of affluent villages in the seat, including Grendon Underwood and Newton Longville.

Industries in the constituency include agriculture, and the manufacture of car components. There is a large service sector.

The University of Buckingham is the country's first private university. However, the majority of constituents commute either to nearby Milton Keynes or into central London.
