Description
BBC Profile:
Bognor Regis and Littlehampton was created from most of the pre-1997 Arundel seat, which had been represented by the Conservative Sir Michael Marshall since 1974. In 1997 he stepped aside in favour of the current incumbent, Nick Gibb.

Compared with the old Arundel seat, the result for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton in the 1997 general election produced a drop of almost 13% in the Conservative vote alongside a 15% gain for Labour. In 2001 Mr Gibb retained a majority of 5,643.

Gibb's majority grew to almost 8,000 in 2005.

At the election, the seat gains the part-wards of Felpham East and Yapton from Arundel and the South Downs. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The seat covers a coastal strip of West Sussex where the South Downs fall away to the English Channel. The urban areas of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis are on either side of the river Arun.

Bognor Regis is recorded as having the highest annual hours of sunshine in the UK, and so unsurprisingly has many retirees and holiday resorts based around Pagham Harbour and Aldwick.

The number of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Arun District is above the national average, and they employ the majority of constituents. Light industry can be found in Littlehampton, but the major local industries are retirement-based and tourism, the largest employer in that sector being the Butlins Fam
