Description
BBC Profile:
Labour's Jennie Lee, wife of Aneurin Bevan, held the seat from 1945 to 1970, when she was defeated by Patrick Cormack, for the Conservatives. Labour regained the seat in 1974, but it was won back by the Conservatives in 1983.

Current MP, Labour's Tony Wright, took the seat in 1992. He was returned in 2005 with a majority of 9,227 votes.

Boundary changes at the election will make the seat completely co-terminous with the District of Cannock Chase as it will lose its one ward from South Staffordshire. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Situated in southern Staffordshire, Cannock Chase is comprised of the towns of Cannock and Rugeley and surrounding small villages.

The seat's name is taken from a high plateau of historic heath and woodland that is the smallest designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK, but this idyllic setting also has a heavily industrial heritage that stretches back to Tudor times.

Cannock Chase itself is an area of rural beauty that boasts an Iron Age hill fort and an ancient hunting forest. 1,214 hectares of the chase are conserved as one of Britain's largest country parks and it attracts a huge number of visitors annually.

Some of the constituency's other landmarks include the German military cemetery near Broadhurst Green and the large power station at Rugeley.
