Description In 1860, no popular vote election for US President was held in South Carolina. The state legislature appointed all of the electors to John Breckinridge on 11/6/1860, the same day the popular vote was cast in the other states. The candidates for Presidential Elector were chosen nearly unanimously. The legislature then considered instructing the Electors but decided against it.

Would be really cool if someone found the state legislative record to see what the vote was to appoint the electors.

I checked the newspapers and posted what I found in the description.

If I recall the notes in one of the Dubin books (The Congressional Elections Book probably) correctly, finding antebellum South Carolina newspaper sources was sort of a problem. So not sure how well pre-1861 official accounts will be kept up.

The 1860 South Carolina Journal of the State House mentions that the choice of Breckenridge was unanimous between both the House and the Senate and there was no debate or roll call prior.
