Description BBC Profile:
This seat was formed out of the old Kingston and Surbiton constituencies in 1997 when Liberal Democrat Ed Davey won by a margin of 56 votes. In 2001 Davey secured victory with more than 60% of the vote and retained the seat in 2005 with a majority of 8,966.

At the election, part of Beverley ward is gained from Richmond Park. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The constituency is largely residential although Kingston's town centre attracts shoppers from a wider area.

The A3 passes through the constituency, providing good links with the M25. South West Trains take about half an hour to get to central London from a number of stations in the constituency. The closest Tube stations are a bus journey away in either Richmond or Wimbledon.

Most constituents work outside the constituency; Kingston University has around 14,500 students.

Britain's first purpose-built theatre of the 21st century opened in 2008 in Kingston in the form of the Rose Theatre.
