Data Sources | Vote of Florida (5/19/1908) shown here, taken from the account of the state canvass published in the Tampa Tribune, 5/31/1908 |
Description |
It is not clear how many states held Democratic presidential primaries in 1908. The New York Times reported on 6/8/1908 "A number of states now choose their district delegates by primary," but gave no further details. Pennsylvania voted on 4/11/1908, and Florida voted on 5/19.
Pennsylvania's ballot included names of candidates for delegate without noting who they supported for the presidency. Most delegates chosen were uninstructed and defeated candidates pledged to Bryan (Pittsburgh Post, 4/13/1908).
