When Sen. Kennedy arrived at the office of the Secretary of State to file for the race, he found that he forgot to bring his checkbook to hand in his check for $290. SOS Tom Finan gave him a blank check, and Kennedy blanked out the bank name and Finan's name, then used the check to pay the filing fee. NYT 2/3/1960
