Description The race to replace Minshall turned into a three-way battle. The independent was Dennis Kucinich, a 27-year old Cleveland city councilman who had endorsed the Republican for Cleveland Mayor in the previous race. He chose to run as an Independent after a nasty spat with local Democratic leaders. The New York Times reported that Kucinich was the third party candidate with the best chance of being elected to the U.S. House in 1974. [NYT 10/22/1974]
