| Description |
On April 4, 1861, the Virginia Convention voted against secession. However, following the firing upon Fort Sumter, SC, pro-Union sentiments in Virginia strongly eroded and on April 17, 1861 the Virginia Convention voted in favor of secession and sent the issue to voters for final ratification.
