| Description |
After losing the election, Vicente Fox and others claimed electoral fraud had changed the outcome of the election, leading President Carlos Salinas to force Aguirre to not take office. The Guanajuato legislature elected Leon Mayor Carlos Medina as the interim governor to serve out the remainder of the term.
