Independent Democratic nomination
A group of Independent Democrats who were opposed to an association with the Populists held a state convention in Greensboro on 9/11/1902. They nominated a state ticket headed by Hill (Asheville Times, 9/12/1902).
Republican Nomination
The Republican state convention met on 8/27/1902 and endorsed Hill with all delegate votes save one.
Term
Clark was elected to an 8-year term and won re-election several times before his death in 1924.
