Following the defeat of the center-right coalition in 12 out of 14 regional elections, Silvio Berlusconi resigned as Prime Minister, remaining as a caretaker. Berlusconi was able to negotiate the formation of a new government which involved some minor changes, but the major players in the coalition remained the same.
