Elected via private vote by state legislature.
To fill vacancy caused by Lt. Gov. Beresford being elected to Congress. Alexander Gillon was elected in his place on August 22, 1783 but decline August 27, 1783. Gen. William Moultrie elected in his stead Feb. 16, 1784.
