Prohibition nomination
The Prohibition state convention on 5/15/1888 also nominated candidates for US House, including Montague. His name was various misspelled in newspapers (Gastonia Gazette, 5/31/1888).
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention was held in Greensboro on 5/22/1888. The delegates nominated Brower unanimously on the first ballot (Greensboro North State, 5/24/1888).
