Description |
In April 2003, Chief Justice Poritz was nominated by Governor James E. McGreevey to continue her service as Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Poritz was confirmed on a near party-line vote, with most Democrats voting to reconfirm and most Republicans voting to reject Poritz. Four Republicans voted to confirm: Senators Gormley, Cafiero, Bark, and Allen. The lone Democrat to vote no was State Senator Nia Gill, who did so based on concerns about racial profiling.
Poritz will continue to serve as Chief Justice until she reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70 on October 26, 2006.
