Description |
Officials said Tuesday (4/26/05) that the general election scheduled for June 7 will not take place because no Democrat qualified for the race. Instead, the Alabama secretary of state's office will issue a certificate of election to DeMarco after the runoff results are certified by the county and state. Trey Granger, general counsel to the secretary of state's office, said the move is allowed under a 1953 constitutional amendment.
The seat was vacated when Rep. Mark Gaines, R-Homewood, was named probate judge in Jefferson County.
