Description |
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention failed to name a nominee, with three candidates deadlocking the delegates. Afterwards, Orlando Hubbs, the incumbent, continued to run, and James O'Hara did as well. Late in the campaign, the Democrats discussed running a candidate (Henry G. Williams), and given the possibility of losing the seat in a three-way race, Hubbs withdrew from the race weeks before the election (New Bern Daily Journal, 10/22/1882).
