Description |
The Constitution Party assembled in Philadelphia PA. Delegates attended by invitation from 13 states: CA, CO, CT, ID, IL, IN, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX and UT. A man named Haliburton Fales NY served as chairman of the convention. The convention was called after Sen. Taft lost the Republican nomination, as the party leaders had decided not to support either Eisenhower or Stevenson. Since the party held its convention so late, it decided not to contest the popular vote but to concentrate its energy upon convincing the Presidential Electors to vote for Douglas MacArthur for President.
