Description |
John Spaulding fell 26 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1845. The joint assembly convened on October 11 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of State Treasurer, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. On what appears to be the first ballot, when the ballots were taken and counted, John Spaulding was elected. Spaulding received 136 (62.3%), Baldwin 75 (33.8%), and Wood 12 (5.4%), according to the Journal.
