Data Sources | Official county returns in the state archives. The vote totals given reflect the presidential preference vote. The vote for electoral slates was People's 20,418; Caucus 15,629; Straight Jackson 248; Federalist 1.
The Straight Jackson vote was for a single Elector, replacing one of the People's Party Electors who did not come out directly for Jackson. These 248 votes should not be added to Jackson's other votes because the 248 voters supported the remainder of the People's Ticket. |
Description |
The People's Ticket was originally formed as an Electoral slate for John C. Calhoun. When he switched to the VP race, the People's Ticket gave voters an opportunity to write on their ballot who to cast the electoral vote for. All write-ins below were cast on People's Ticket ballots. Crawford's electors ran on the Caucus Ticket.
The Presidential Electors were (1) Robert Love, (2) Montfort Stokes, (3) Peter Forney, (4) John Giles, (5) Augustine H. Sheppard, (6) John M. Morehead, (7) Walter F. Leake, (8) James Mebane, (9) Josiah Crudup, (10) William Drew, (11) William B. Lockhart, (12) William Martin, (13) William A. Blount, (14) Vine Allen, and (15) Edward B. Dudley.
