Shi'a Islamist, Hazara minority-rights party launched by Jihadist commander Muhammad Akbari in 1994. Party was part of the Hezbe Wahdat coalition until Akbari split off and struck a deal with the Taliban in 2013. Akbari recently joined forces with Afghanistan's oldest Islamic party, the Jamiat-e Islami. Party was part of the Tehran Eight Shiite alliance which supported the Soviet occupation [Hizb-i-Wahdat-i-Milli-Islami-i-Afghanistan (HWMIA)].
